6 Ways to increase your chances of ‘going viral’

Can you make us go viral? 😑

The words that make the arseholes pucker of anyone working in social media and content marketing.

We’ve had content that has gone viral in a huge way, reaching hundreds of millions of people…. and we’ve had content that has flopped. Big time.

I’ve created adverts in the carpark of Lidl on my mobile phone in under five minutes that have been shared millions of times, and I’ve spent days working on what I thought was a great idea for it to fall flat. Shit happens, and nobody can nail it all the time.

There are however a few things you can do to improve your odds of ‘going viral’ when making content.🤔

☑️ Be timely. Timing is everything. Relevant, on point and reactive content that is of the moment will always stand a better chance of being shared.

☑️ Keep it simple. A simple idea done well will always hit harder than a complex idea. Assume your audience has an attention span of 0.00000002 seconds, and you need to make your point in that time.

☑️ A picture (or video) is worth a bazillion words. In most cases, the less copy required to deliver your point the better. There are exceptions where sexy as fuck copy does a great job, but for the most part, as little text as possible makes the most impact. Don’t waste words.

☑️ Be original-ish. Original ideas are obviously the best, but often a great idea comes from explaining something that people are already thinking or saying, in a better way.

☑️ Know your audience. Who are you trying to speak to? Use the language, images and approach that your audience wants, and screw everyone else.

☑️ Be lucky. Yeh, truth is while you can improve your odds of making something ‘go viral’, there is still an element of luck. Anyone who says otherwise is taking bull. 🐮
